Superior Machine Co. of S.C., Inc. (Superior) announces the delivery and installation of a revamped electric furnace (EAF) for ArcelorMittal’s, Georgetown, S.C. steel mill.
This EAF project marks another major revamp within the industry as ArcelorMittal along with other steel makers invest in increased production capacity in response to the recent demands for worldwide steel.
To achieve the operating objectives of AM Georgetown, Superior provided a redesigned lower shell in a tri-radius fashion to increase the furnace sump height, redesigned and delivered a new upper shell with water cooled buckstays to improve longevity and reduce maintenance requirements, delivered a new roof frame, a new gantry support and swing structure with a maintenance-friendly electrode column guidance system, a new tilt platform and new furnace locking system.
Superior’s engineers designed the EAF revamp utilizing proprietary 3D modeling techniques and optimizing the design of the EAF by performing its own FEA (finite element analysis) engineering studies.
